GreenWood Families,

As our year draws to an end, we celebrate all that we have nourished in this, our 2nd academic school year, and even, new seeds that we have planted as we dedicate ourselves to the great work of student success. We anticipate a great 3rd year and look forward to working with you, our students and families to grow GreenWood. We have some exciting additions to our school

With our expansion to include 7th grade, our grade alignment will shift to support a Middle School in our Upper Grove. Beginning this Fall, Upper Grove will include grades 6 and 7, with 8th grade added in 2018. Middle Grove will include grades 3-5. 4th and 5th grades will be taught together with 3rd taught as a stand alone to increase our support of math and writing standards as students enter our Middle Grove.

Early Grove will still include grades Kinder through 2nd. 1st and 2nd grades will be taught independent, but will loop. (A loop is a class of the same grade taught by the same teacher for 2 consecutive years. For example, a 1st grader will be in a class of all 1st grade students, and will have the same teacher with the same student peers for 2nd grade.)

There will be some staffing changes with both teachers and instructional aides as we move to a new grade alignment. We are in the process of hiring additional instructional aides to support teachers and student with an aide in each class. Teacher and class assignments will be sent out to families on August 1st.

We are planning some exciting after school enrichments for our students this Fall. Mrs. Wilcox is working with our teachers to design student projects, leadership opportunities and school services. If you are interested in helping her grow these experiences for our students, email her at swilcox@greenwoodcharter.org

Year-end Family Survey Parents, please take 5 minutes to give us your important feedback to help us build a better school this Fall. Visit www.tetrastart.com and use access code 322178. ***See Attachment***

Volunteers Needed: Are you still needing volunteer hours for the year? We are in need of 10 volunteers June 5-7th to put together math packets, games and manipulatives this Fall. If you can help us for a couple hours, we are meeting at 9am in the Auditorium. Children are welcome to play together while you work. Email sthomas@greenwoodcharter.org to RSVP.

GreenWood Family Garden: We need a few more families to sign up to take care of the garden this summer. Choose a week to come as often as you would like to maintain the weeds, pick the produce that is ripe, and take it home. There is a calendar in the office to see what weeks are available. Email Heather with any questions. hbarnes@greenwoodcharter.org

Adventure Summer Camps: This year we were able to bring back Mr. Andrew as our Adventure Coordinator. We took our students to Zion and up to the Valley. This Summer he has organized Adventure Summer Camps for each Grove to have their own week of exploration, mindfulness, and the GreenWood way. GreenWood faculty members Coach D, Kylie Peterson, and Mr. Andrew will lead activities to keep your child's body active and their mind curious, including sessions focused on mindfulness/yoga, team building, STEM, Environmental Exploration and nutrition/ cooking.

Summer camp will run from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Friday night we will hold an overnight camp out at the school for students and their families from 6 pm to 8 am Saturday morning. On Wednesday, we will meet at a local trail head for a group hike. Field Day is Friday, June 2nd. Volunteers are needed to make this a great day for the students! There is a sign up sheet in the office. If you do not sign up, you will be assigned to a station. Volunteer rotations are for 1.5 hours. If you have volunteered to bring in supplies, please drop them off to the school by the 26th. Email khales@greenwoodcharter.org to volunteer for a 1-2 hour shift.

Lost and Found: Don't forget to have your students check the Lost and Found. Items left here after the school year will be donated.

Upper Grove Passages: We are in need of a few parents to sign up to sit on a panel to hear the Upper Grove students present their portfolio discussing everything that have covered throughout the school year. It will be on Wednesday the 24th from about 1:00-7:00pm. We encourage parents to volunteer in 2 hour blocks so that they gain a better understanding of the Passage process and so they become a better panel member. This is a great way to get volunteer hours in, and also, to get a better understanding of EL and what your students will be learning in the years to come here at GreenWood. If you are able to sign up, please contact Mrs. Clark at kclark@greenwoodcharter.org
