  • GreenWood SNOWSHOE Family Adventure, THIS SATURDAY, March 9th at 10:00 AM. Join Mr. Andrew on a Saturday morning snowshoe hike! If you don't have snowshoes, no worries! Mr. A will have snowshoes for up to 27 participants.
    We will meet up at the Ogden Nature Center North Trailhead located at 1160 N Mountain Rd, Ogden, UT 84404. The hike will include a short uphill section to start and then flatten out for the rest of the hike. See you all on the trail!
  • Sign-up TODAY in your Compass account for Student-led Parent Conferences next Thursday and Friday, March 14&15. Students are released from school at 1:30 Wednesday through Friday next week. Upper Grove Students sign-up with just their Crew Teacher, but will meet in the Auditorium to review portfolios with all teachers available.
  • Day Light Savings Time Ends at 2am on March 10th. Be sure to set your clocks UP 1 hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.

    • TONIGHT!! The Planet We Call Home: 5 Things Everyone Should Know About Climate Change, 6 – 7:30pm. Speakers: Jenn Bodine and Dan Bedford (Weber St,) Earth is an incredible place, full of animals, plants, and other natural wonders that force us to reflect on our role in this world. Join us for a series of presentations from local nature-lovers as we explore our world and what we can do to keep it healthy for generations to come. Pre-registration required. Global warming is a frequently misunderstood and politicized topic, but there are 5 basic things that everyone should know. This talk brings attendees up-to-speed on the latest climate science. Solutions that are being deployed right here in our own backyard to solve this wicked problem will also be addressed.

BILL NYE is COMING to OGDEN!! Due to overwhelmingly popular response, Weber State University has moved its April 3 moderated conversation with Bill Nye "The Science Guy" to the Dee Events Center April 3 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Weber State students can pick up two free tickets at any Weber State ticket office from Feb. 27-March 13 with a valid Wildcard ID. A limited number of tickets are available to the community for $10 at weberstatetickets.com



Nye's appearance culminates this year's Engaged Learning Series (ELS) around the theme "Matter of Fact?" ELS is a university-wide series of events designed to engage students, faculty, staff and community in discussion, debate, dialogue, learning and action around an issue of public concern.The ELS focus on facts dovetails with Nye's mission: "To help foster a scientifically literate society, to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work."Feb 14

What a kind week this has been for us at GreenWood! I have felt so much joy in walking through Crews this week to hear their kind words, see their kind acts and, today, see their faces light-up as they read their kind notes from their Crewmates! Thank-you for making this a spectacular week for our students! I absolutely loved the delight in our students faces as they read take kind and thoughtful notes from their crewmates! We appreciate your support of this sweet GreenWood practice.

    Note: Shredded paper should be enclosed in a clear plastic bag so they can identify it as non-trash, and so it won't be scattered when the bin is upturned to the carrier truck.

Do you have your ice skates ready? Come skate with us at the Ice Sheet tonight with other "adventurous" GreenWood families. Drop by between 6:00-8:00pm and skate to your heart's content for only $5 per person including skate rentals! Children as young as 3 are welcome to skate.

THIS WEEK'S INTENTION: I can reframe my mindset when faced with challenges. Practice taking a "pause" before responding to a challenge, an uncomfortable situation, or hearing an unkind word. Talk about how your thoughts and feelings change when you take a pause.

  • Valentine's Day is part of our Carry Kindness Week. We celebrate our students with positive comments, prepared at home to share with each member of your student's Crew on Valentine's Day. We ask that you take the time with your student to reflect on each classmate in your student's Crew and help them write a positive note to each on a Valentine, sticker, or notecard. No trip to the store is necessary- we don't allow food, candy, toy or other token exchanges.

GreenWood Families,

Thank-you for the well wishes in my behalf these last two weeks. I had surgery to remove a benign tumor from my pituitary gland. I am doing well and have been glad to get back to school to work with our amazing teachers and students, and you, our supportive families. We have lots to do in January! Thank-you for the support each time you read with your student, practice their math facts and feed them a healthy family meal! We love our GreenWood families!

Join us on Friday, January 25th for our annual Parent "Date" Night, here at the school. We will learn together with Aspen Florence-Henderson, our Behavior Specialist, strategies for talking with our students about some of the struggles that can happen during the school day- "bullying," hurtful words, friend dynammics. It is important to talk with our kids in ways that help them grow in their social and emotional learning. Let's learn how!

This week our students earned 2031 Value Tickets with Faiola's Crew winning with 426 Tickets, but Early Grove held the lead 1005 tickets this week. Our students have earned 34,693 TICKETS THIS YEAR!! Middle of Winter "blahs" and our students are still following our norms to be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE and ENGAGED! Crews earned a READING PARTY with their hard work!

    While the fields are quiet in the winter, prints in the snow give evidence to hidden creatures. Join us as we discuss and practice different ways to track animals and learn about different ways they get around in the winter. Perfect for children ages 5-9

GreenWood Families,

We are excited to support the birding adventure tomorrow at the Ogden Nature Center beginning at 9am. We all get in free tomorrow! Monday, Miss Misty hosts our book party for students having met their December reading goals. Tuesday is our family luncheon for families who have already sent their RSVP- please no drop-ins as we have already ordered the food. Wednesday is our Service Day, beginning with our Awards Assembly at 8:15am for individual awards, and Celebration Crew at 8:30am for Crew Awards and our Thinking Creatively slideshow. Students are out at noon on Wednesday. Winter Break is from Dec 20- Jan 1st, with students returning on Wednesday, January 2nd.

Our new student lottery for next school year is open! Current students wanting to return to our school next year (2019-2020 school year) need to submit their Intent to Return form in Compass by December 19th. As a charter school, our to secure your student's spot at GreenWood for the 2018-19 school year. Have an sibling turning 5 before September 1st, 2019? Enroll your preschool-aged student to secure their priority sibling spot before the lottery on December 20th. This week our students earned 3358 Value Tickets with Clark's Crew winning with 615 Tickets putting our MIDDLE Grove in the lead with 1496 tickets this week, and our total to 30448 TICKETS THIS YEAR!! We have had so much fun with your student this week! Thank-you to all our families who came and supported us at Fall Night. Check out our FaceBook page for pics from the fun night. Join us tonight for a fun night hike with Mr. Andrew and other adventurous "night owls." TONIGHT @ 7:30pm. We'll hike up Taylor Canyon again, this time under the cover of darkness. We'll enjoy the sights and sounds of the trail at night and stop at a meeting place halfway through to learn about the mechanics of night vision. Meet at the top of 27th street.Bring warm clothes, a cup for hot drinks, and a flashlight or headlamp.

  • As we approach the winter months, we need to build our list of substitute teachers to support our Crews. If you are interested in working as a substitute teacher, please contact the office for more information on pay, background check and hours.
  • Recess monitors are needed to support Wednesdays during lunchtime from 11:30am until 1pm.
  • Crossing support is needed in the mornings from 8:00-8:30am to help keep our students safe while our teachers prepare for their day and in the afternoons from 3:25-3:50pm to help with the flow of traffic as cars merge. Call Peggy in the office to sign-up to help for a morning and /or afternoon! We rely on you for help!

MISSION POSSIBLE: Wednesday is our first Forest Crew of the year, and our launch of this year's reading challenge: Mission Impossible. Students, teachers AND family members earn a leaf for every book they read, and for each weekly challenge they complete. Keep your students excited about reading, and be sure to add your leaf to our parent/family member reading bucket in the office.
